Playwright Wendy Wasserstein, best known for The Heidi Chronicles and The Sisters Rosensweig, passed away on Monday after a battle with lymphoma. She was 55.
In 1999, at the age of 48, she gave birth to daughter Lucy Jane. Regarding her advanced age, she told the the Forward, a Jewish weekly newspaper, "The thing about having a baby (at an) older (age) is that she doesn’t have to live her life for me. I can see her, I hope, as a person." She never divulged Lucy’s father’s identity, at least not publicly.
The Heidi Chronicles won the best-play Tony as well as the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1989. She also wrote the screenplay for the Jennifer Aniston/Paul Rudd flick, The Object of My Affection.
