01/21/2006 at 07:05 AM ET

Danish_prince_family Danish_princeThe littlest Prince in Denmark has finally been named! The first child of Crown Prince Frederik and Princess Mary has been christened Christian Valdemar Henri John, keeping with tradition which dates back to the 16th century.

The young Prince has Godparents: Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, Mary’s sister Jane Stephens, Prince Joachim of Denmark, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece, Hamish Campbell and Jeppe Handwerk. The bishop of the Danish capital, Erik Norman Svendsen, conducted the christening in the Christiansborg Palace church in Copenhagen. Christian was baptized in the dress worn by Frederik for his christening in 1968 – a 135-year-old dress made of Belgian lace first used for King Christian X.

Mom Said It

"We weren't trying to have kids. We left it up to fate. I knew there was a possibility, but I was really excited. Even if you are trying, just to see a positive result is shocking!"
