Names for the twin Belgian princes

12/19/2005 at 10:05 AM ET

The twin Belgian princes who were born on December 13th to Prince Laurent and Princess Claire have been named Nicolas Casimir Marie and Aymeric Auguste Marie (instead of Emeric).

Belgian newspapers allege that each of the parents chose one name. Aymeric was Princess Claire’s choice. Prince Laurent wanted to name the other twin Casimir, after a popular character on Walloon children’s television, but this met his wife’s veto.

A godfather and godmother have not yet been chosen. (Note: Almost two years ago, Prince Laurent surprised friends and foes with the announcement that Reza Pahliva, a Muslim and the son of the former sjah of Iran, would become his daughter Louise’s godfather.)
