Julio Iglesias Sr. dies

12/19/2005 at 08:49 AM ET

Just days after announcing he and his second wife were expecting their 2nd child together, Julio Iglesias Sr., 90, father to Julio, grandfather to Enrique, passed away.  The cause of death was not officially announced, but according to Spanish National Radio, it was a heart attack.

Julio Sr. is recognized not only for his famous son and grandson but also for his work as a gynecologist.  He was one of the youngest doctors ever to work for the country’s state-run health-care system and helped found the Madrid Maternity Clinic where he became the head of its sterility, infertility and family planning unit.  In December 1981 through January 1982, he was kidnapped and held captive by the armed group ETA.

He is survived by his sons Julio and Carlos (with his first wife Rosario de la Cierva y Perinon), Jaime (with his second wife) and his second wife, Ronna Keit.

Aw, that is SO sad!! I was so amused to read of his impending fatherhood the other day, so this is quite a sad bit of news…best wishes to his wife and extended family. Ninety years old is a good long life in anyone’s book!

I was shocked when I read that he was going to be a dad, now he’s passed away. Well, I hope the baby’s relatives (famous and no) and his/her mother will help him/her to know who his father was. :)

Mom Said It

"We weren't trying to have kids. We left it up to fate. I knew there was a possibility, but I was really excited. Even if you are trying, just to see a positive result is shocking!"
