Brooke Shields shares pregnancy information

11/02/2005 at 12:32 PM ET

Bshields2 Brooke Shields has begun discussing her pregnancy on the talk show circuit, appearing on both the Today show and The View this morning. This second pregnancy came as a surprise to Brooke and her husband Chris Henchy, as they were expecting to have to go the fertility treatment route, as they did with daughter Rowan, 2 1/2. However, this baby was conceived naturally, and because of that, Brooke does not yet have an exact due date – she says ,"We don’t know exactly yet. I just found out." She also said that Rowan was the one to announce the pregnancy officially – to her playgroup! Rowan revealed to the other children that, "there’s a baby in mommy’s belly."

Brooke was also asked if she fears a return of her postpartum depression, which experts say can become more severe with the births of subsequent children. She replied that she doesn’t fear it, saying, "I’m informed now." However, when asked what she would be getting as a gift for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ baby, believed to be due late this winter, Brooke would only laugh.

Even if she had undergone IVF she wouldn’t necessarily know the exact due date either; my daughter was 3 days early. Even the ultrasound cannot tell you with 100% certainty when the baby is going to decide to make an appearance. It is all a big guessing game (although granted some can make a better educated guess than others). I am so excited for them!!

I read recently that the average pregnancy is now considered to be 41 weeks (rather than the old 40 weeks) so doctors will soon start changing due dates accordingly. Apparently it’s got to do with better health.

I hope Brooke’s post natal depression doesn’t come back with this new baby. She’s a great mother, and I hope she can experience the joy of a newborn without being swamped with the agony of depression.

Lots and lots of luck to Brooke!! Thats great she didn’t have to do IVF again. IVF is so trying and an emotional and physical rollercoaster! Good for her!!!!

What a wonderful surprise for Brooke and Chris! I had to laugh about Rowan spilling the proverbial beans, though. As one who has experienced the same at the hand of my own son, I know what it’s like to have your kid loudly announce to the world that which you weren’t quite ready to reveal.
