Denmark prepares for the birth of their royal heir

10/09/2005 at 01:00 PM ET

Danish Crown Princess Mary is due to give birth any day and the royal palace is busy planning the celebrations to announce it. The royal couple, Mary and Crown Prince Frederick, announced their pregnancy back in April after just a year of marriage, and it’s reported the Princess has since been practicing yoga in anticipation of a natural birth.

Denmark has been eagerly awaiting the birth with Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen even going as far as proposing changes to the law so that the baby will take the throne regardless of gender. A troop of soldiers have been moved from their posts closer to Copenhagen so they can fire a 21 gun salute after the royal baby is born, traditionally carried out within two hours of the event.
