Penny Lancaster tells why she is so thrilled to be pregnant
UK model Penny Lancaster is thrilled to be pregnant after a miscarriage and cancer scare left her fearful she couldn’t have children. Penny’s baby with fiance rocker Rod Stewart is due in December, “I’m enjoying every second of it,” she beams. “I go to sleep smiling in the arms of the man I love and wake up smiling, holding my tummy. Having a child with Rod is all I’ve wanted.”
Ten years ago Penny suffered a miscarriage within a former relationship, it was then that she discovered that she had a cyst on her fallopian tubes and had to undergo a series of operations that left her unsure whether she could conceive again, “With all those problems I did have that fear of: ‘Will it be OK to have kids?’. But before Rod and I started trying, doctors had reassured me everything was healthy. I did all the tests and I was ovulating, so that was a good sign.” And they were pregnant within just six months of planning, “I was thrilled, but I didn’t want to get too wrapped up in it because it was still early,” she says. “I’ve read a million books that say miscarriage is common and you can go on to have a healthy child. But when it happens to you it’s terrifying."
Penny and Rod have chosen not find out the baby’s sex, but Penny lets slip that the scan did reveal that the baby has long legs and that they have chosen the baby’s middle name: Wallace, after he Grandfather. She also reveals that, “Rod said if it’s not a girl this time, we’ll have one next time. He’s already talking about number two.”
Rod already has five kids from three previous relationships: Kimberly, 26, and Sean, 24, Ruby, 18, and Renee, 13 and Liam, 11.
Penny also revealed that she isn’t going back to modeling too soon after the birth, “I want to be totally hands-on and not rely on too many other people,” she says. “I’d hate the idea of someone else looking after the baby because to me that’s the most important job.”
On the subject of their engagement she was quick to rule out a shot-gun wedding, “Whether it happens next year or the one after, we’re in no rush – we know we’ll be together for ever… it’ll make it so special with Rod walking down the aisle with baby in arms."
