Danielle's pregnancy update: Week 31.5

08/08/2005 at 12:05 AM ET

Dsc_0004At week 31.5, we’re 60 days away from my little lady’s due date.  Things are starting to come together.  Click below to read more and to check on the belly.

Maternal Health
We had a little bit of stress over the past few weeks due to the gestational diabetes test.  As is the norm for woman nowadays, I had took this test which involves drinking a Tang-flavored 50-gram solution of glucose and having blood drawn an hour later.  I took the 1 hour and then had to take the 3 hour because I had gone slightly over the normal limit for the test. Unfortunately, since the 3 hour test involves drinking a 100-gram glucose solution on an empty stomach, it made me nauseous so after the first 40 minutes, I threw it up and had to be rescheduled for the test.  The second time, I managed to make it through the entire test and to make this long story less long, the results came back normal and I do not have gestational diabetes!  Woo hoo!

Other news from the doctor- even after two weeks in Italy, eating pasta up the wazoo, insalate de mare and gelato galore, I have only gained 11 pounds the entire pregnancy which is really good.  Even if I gain another pound a week until the baby is born, I will still only be up 20 lbs.

The Baby Herself
The third trimester is all about the baby getting fat.  Right now she weighs about 4 lbs and is about 15-17 inches tall.  Her skeleton is ossifying (turning from cartilage into solid bone) which means those kicks are getting stronger!  When she moves, I can really feel it.  When I’m in bed, I can see her moving around.  It’s like Alien- my belly moves.

The other day I asked Josh to give me an example of something that weighed 4 pounds so I could better visualize how heavy the baby is getting.  After some thought, he said, "Things that weigh four pounds."  After some more thought, he came up with a roasting chicken, but I need to go to the supermarket and try holding one since he’s the one that does all the cooking and I don’t know what a chicken feels like!

The Car
We traded in our Mini Cooper and bought a dark silver Passat wagon.  It’s not as much fun as the Mini but we didn’t feel comfortable about putting the baby in the back seat.  Also, the Mini has a tiny trunk.

New Home
We got the keys to our new pad on Tuesday and have started packing and moving some boxes in.  We will officially be in the new place at the end of the month.  That means life is kind of chaotic and

Baby Gear
Bugaboo_red After much deliberation, we finally decided on a stroller AND the color.  For a long time, it was between the Inglesina Zippy which our friends Cathy & Sal decided to go with, and the Bugaboo Frog.   We loved the one-handed fold and unfold of the Inglesina Zippy but it’s just too heavy for me to lift.  The strollers weigh about the same but the Bugaboo Frog comes apart in two pieces to fold (seat comes off) so that makes putting it in and out of the car a lot easier for me.  We struggled with the idea that you have to take the seat off to fold it but realized that as city folk, we won’t need to fold it all that much because we don’t use the car every day.  After a few trips to BuyBuyBaby to testdrive, we decided on the…. Bugaboo Frog.

We ordered the crib and dresser/changer about 2 weeks ago.  My mother ordered the bassinet and is trying to hunt down Pottery Barn Kids’ last green bedding for it in the tri-state area.

Here is where we’re registered for everything else.
BuyBuyBaby- Baby basics and accessories
Pottery Barn Kids- bassinet, bedding and bath
Babystyle- clothing, stroller and carseat

Bellybutton status
For some reason, I have been obsessed with when my bellybutton was going to pop out, if at all.  Over the last couple of weeks, it had been flattening and finally it is starting to sort of poke out.  I have been moisturizing it so it will be soft and supple when it finally pops out all the way.

Factoid of the week
From now until delivery, I’ll be gaining about a pound a week. About half of that gain is the baby’s, the rest is fluid retention.  Lovely.

All I can ask is PLEASE not another Lola! The names cute, but too much over-used.

But I’m glad your having a girl! We need more women in this world! LOL

Thanks for the update Danielle and also for letting us know where you are registered. Registeries are so great- it really takes the guesswork out and then you don’t end up with 30 blankets! Good luck over the next few months!

not asking what it is, but do you have a name picked?

I hope your feeling okay Danielle and thanks for the update. :) Just remember to get as much as you can now because you’ll never sleep again after your baby comes!

wow! your belly getting bigger! Congrats!

actually, your baby only gains about a 1/4 lb a week in the last six weeks, slowing to nearly nothing after the due date. :) thank goodness! anything you put on beyond that is insurance for nursing!

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
