Tim Burton compares son's birth to horror movie

07/28/2005 at 10:34 PM ET

36370Director Tim Burton (Nightmare Before Christmas, Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) says that watching girlfriend Helena Bonham Carter give birth to their son Billy in 2003 was like a horror movie. Tim reveals, “That’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen. It’s like an ‘Alien’ movie. I started crying, it was so emotional…I was there in the room but I wasn’t planning on doing much. But then I see this blue pinhead come out and I think I said to the nurse, ‘What the hell is that?’ And then it turns into this round red thing in seconds. It’s just shocking.” I don’t think I’d want to be on the receiving end either. Maybe it’s a good thing that we don’t have a bird’s eye view when we have babies? :D Thanks to Casey from BabyNames for the article.

I kicked the mirror. I think they were trying to show me a good push vs. a bad one but I wasn’t

Even though his words were not couched in the
gentlest or most tactful phraseology, he
pretty much hit the nail on the head in terms
of what happens during a delivery. It must be
hard for a man to see his wife go through all
that.

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
