NYC restaurant manager performed Heimlich maneuver on Mira Sorvino's baby

Mira Sorvino’s 8 month old daughter Mattea’s life was choking on a piece of bread at NYC restaurant Jerry’s when restaurant manager, Toi Tracy, grabbed the baby and started performing the Heimlich meneuver on her.  Toi had just taken a baby Heimlich maneuver class.

That must have been scary for Mira and Mattea. Guess she’s teething, and was chewing on the bread?

Mira said that she gave Mattea the bread because she was teething.

I saw that on tv and she was lucky that someone knew what to do. You’re not suppose to give bread to a baby until they are at least a year old. duh. Even if they are teething there are other things to use then bread. I babysat and never ever would give a baby bread even if the parents said it was ok, unless they had teeth. Has she ever heard of teething crackers or cookies that are actually good for the baby? I guess not. She really got lucky!

I really hope that Mira takes a first aid course in case it happens again. The restaurant manager came to the rescue this time but what if she is alone with the baby and it happens again?

Doesn’t bread expand when wet therefore making it even easier for it to lodge in the throat? I thought that was why my mom always said not to feed the ducks and seagulls pieces of bread.
