Courteney Cox-Arquette talks about PPD, Coco's words, and trying for a boy

Ccox
In a new interview with USA Today, Courteney Cox-Arquette reveals that she and husband David Arquette want to try for another baby, despite experiencing post partum depression symptoms around last Christmas, 6 months after daughter Coco was born. "I went through a really hard time…I couldn’t sleep, my heart was racing, and I got really depressed. [I felt] "smallness" and [dealt with suicidal urges such as] driving off of a cliff…I went to the doctor and found out my hormones had been pummeled." To deal with her difficulties, Courteney took the hormone progesterone and leaned on friends such as Jennifer Aniston and Brooke Shields, who famously suffered from PPD herself.

However, Courteney and husband David Arquette do want to try for a sibling for Coco, 13 months-who’s words now include "bellybutton," "lion," and "flower." Courteney says, "I look at Coco and think, ‘I’m blessed. Why mess with this? Should I take any chances?’ But we’ve got to try for a boy. We’ve got to have a little (boy) Arquette in the family."

Editor’s Note: Before this starts a debate-I’m sure Courteney and David will be perfectly happy if they get a daughter again for their second child. Sounds like they’d just like one of each!

Post partum depression must be horrible.
I am concerned that I will develop it when I
have a child. I am glad that there are
treatment options now.

I am sure they want to have a boy to carry on the Arquette name. David is the only Arquette that can carry on the name, as I’m sure is brother Alexis won’t be having children. I wish them the best, Coco is so cute and I think they are such a nice couple.

I had an extremely mild case of post partum after my first. Doc called it the ‘baby blues’. It lasted 2 – 3 weeks and the symptoms I remember best were anxiousness and weapiness.
I cried during those long distance telephone commercials on TV lol
I didn’t have any after my second was born.

My fingers, toes, arms, legs, and eyes are all crossed for the Arquette’s to have another healthy baby !!

Oh my gosh- those long distance commercials made me bawl throughout my entire pregnancy and after! It’s always parents and grown kids seperated but linked through long distance. Gets me every month too!

They do have someone who can pass on the Arquette name. She’s named Coco Arquette. All they need to do is raise her with the confidence to give at least one of her children her surname rather than her husband’s surname. That would be much wiser than telling the press that they’re trying for a boy; that will be fun for little Coco to read about some day.

I wish them all the best trying for #2 and hope they get the boy they want! I never had PPD after either of my two pregnancies. I felt fine so I can’t relate but I did have a close friend who had it after her first child and I saw it was not fun. My heart goes out to anyone with symptoms.

I personally think they are one of the coolest couples around. I hope they get their wish. I wonder what Courtney has to say about Tommy boy’s attacks on Brooke for taking medication for her PPD.
