Tennis champ Pat Rafter welcomes a daughter

05/24/2005 at 08:16 PM ET

Pat_rafterTwo-time Australian US Open tennis champion Pat Rafter and his wife Lara welcomed their second child, a daughter, at a Sydney, Australia hospital. The baby, which weighed four kilograms when born early Tuesday, has not been named.

The couple also has a two-year-old son, Joshua.

"Everyone is really healthy and happy," Rafter said. "Josh thinks it’s great, too. "He’s very excited."

The 32-year-old Rafter retired from singles play in late 2002, although he played several tour doubles matches in 2003 and 2004. He won the US Open in 1997 and 1998 and was a losing singles finalist at Wimbledon twice.

For those like me who had no idea what 4 kg is exactly, it’s about 8 lbs. 13 oz.

Congratulations to Pat and Lara!!! Now we just have to wait for the name. I presume they would use either Lara or another family name for the second name due to their son having Pat’s middle name, Joshua Patrick!

p.s. my cousin just had a baby on tuesday, named Charlotte! She’s a beautiful baby but she has a cleft palet so will have to have an operation.

Does anyone know her name?

Actually, the lovely Lara and Pat had their baby at Selangor, a small Queensland maternity unit, known for its woman-centred care, strong midwifery presence, and availability of waterbirth.

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
