Sharon Stone talks about Laird and being a single parent

05/16/2005 at 09:34 AM ET

Sstone "I couldn’t possibly imagine that it could get better after having the experience of being a mother to Roan. But the only thing better than one is two. He’s a boy, and he’s called Laird Vonne – that’s my middle name and my aunt’s name."

"I think it is important to be a good friend and think I am very fortunate to have that ‘village’ that Hillary Clinton talks about. … Certainly in this time of Laird coming into my life, I’ve had the best time of my life," Sharon says. "More support and love and kindness then at any other time. I’ve found that … a single woman can do it all, and I would encourage all single women to stand up and show that you can do these things on your own."

Wow. Sharon looks amazing in that picture.

I commend Sharon for adopting a baby but not everyone can just adopt being a single parent. You need to have a lot of money not to mention help. I was raised by a wonderful single mom and it was not easy.

Wow! I have to agree with Layla. I was a single mother of two for 5 years and it was hard work! Now I am remarried and expecting my fourth. I have to say, it’s MUCH easier having someone to share responsibilities with, not to mention, a second income!!

She looks so gorgeous in that picture!

Can anybody answer this–
How do you pronounce Laird Vonne?

Sarah, CBB Editor on

I happened to catch the interview that these comments are from today. She pronounced it “L-air-d.”

Why on earth did another story about this adoption come out? First I hear she adopted and then I hear she had a surrogate mother who gave birth to Sharon’s biological child…so which one is the truth???

ellen on

^ yeah I was wondering the same, I heard it was a surrogate situation, hence biologically hers, is it or is it a sure fire adoption?

SK on

Totally agree Layla. I thik it’s somewhat naive to encourage other woman to be single moms when their situation would be so very different from hers…financially speaking.

Wow..Sharon looks amazing!

The child is NOT related to her. It was not a surrogate situation. The article that Danielle originally posted was incorrect. The child is from a teen mother in Texas, who does not know that Sharon is the adopted mom. It is completely closed, same as Roan’s adoption was.

Thanks for clearing it up. Why doesnt she do surrogate anyways? She could…. but adoption is great as well..
