I heard that you are not supposed to get your hair colored while you are pregnant or is it while you are breast-feeding?

I can’t believe that Elisabeth has gone this long. She was due on March 29th right? Well they do say that the first child is late.

Kristen – I remember that Kelly Ripa talked about that during her last pregnancy and I guess either they discovered that the chemicals in hair dye are not harmful to the baby or they have changed becasue she was told it was safe. I know a lot of other women have continued to color their hair throughout their pregnancy.
Amanda – yes she was due on the 29th.

I was told not to get my hair colored during my first trimester. After that, it was all clear. I’m guessing once all of the major organs are developed, there’s no risk of harming the baby anymore. I’m no doctor though.

Highlights are okay-the old thing was you couldn’t put the hair color directly on the scalp. Now I guess that’s changed? But Kelly and Elisabeth both just get lots of highlights I think anyway.

I had my highlights covered up a few weeks ago (week 10) with a demi-permanent dye which the stylist said doesn’t have ammonia or bleach. She also offered me the option of getting my highlights touched up which she said was safe because it wasn’t on my scalp but I declined, just due to the upkeeep involved.

The reason why they say it’s not safe is because the dye might leak into the bloodstream through the scalp. It’s never happened, it’s just a theory. They also say if you’re going to have it done, do it in a well ventilated area, because breathing in the chemicals isn’t safe.

I colored my hair with both, and my hair dresser changed her hair color like every 6-8 weeks. The fumes are mroe harmful then the dye.

Hello i’m sorry if that is not the right thread but does anybody know if courtney Love is pregnant? i saw a photo recently and she looks like she is in the 5 month or so.

ok ladies, being a hairdresser for 19 years and the mother of a 14 month old, the controversy on coloring your hair durring a pregnancy is this. the darker the color the more the risk, the risks are unknown at this time, its not the bleach or the fumes but the pertoleium derivitives that make haircolor in theory, a danger to a devloping fetus. my imput… in 19 years i have never seen or herd a colorist/stylist being told they can not do their job because they do color and are pregnant, and the colorist get more color on them than most people think (just take a good look at their nails!).

HEY wasn’t Carnie wilson having her baby today? 04-05-05 or was it to be next month? SHe looks soooo big?
I know it was to be c-section right?

I asked my midwife about dying my hair when I was pregnant. She told me that all the literature she’s read points to a very small increase in the risk of miscarriage if you use a dark brown or black dye in the first trimester. Other than that, she said there was absolutely no proven risk to dying your hair while pregnant. Certainly, my daughter turned out just fine, so I guess she was right.

Mom Said It

"I had to make a decision that I could sleep with every night. I did feel responsible for the young girls who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn't trying to glamorize teen pregnancy."
