Demi says I'm not pregnant

Demi Moore is quashing rumors that she’s expecting.  She told People Magazine, "The rumors are just that: rumors."

Moore’s rep Stephen Huvane said: "Having another child is something Demi would like to do, but she cannot at this time say she is pregnant."

As to be expected, boyfriend Ashton Kutcher is handling the rumors with humor.  When asked by David Letterman on his show whether his girlfriend was pregnant, Ashton said, "not that I know of. I mean, we had sex this week, so it could be." He also said, "If she is (pregnant), I gotta go find some guy and kick his ass."

On MTV’s Total Request Live, he said, "I took a pregnancy test this morning. I peed negative."

Demipregnantat42 If Demi is not pregnant, how do rumors like this get started and continue to fester?  It’s one thing for Star or In Touch to speculate when celebs are going to have a baby or tease on the cover "Trista and Ryan’s Baby Plans" like it’s a done deal when the only allusion to it is them saying "yes, we want to have kids eventually."  It’s quite another for Star to have a cover story announcing "Demi Pregnant at 42!" when the star claims it’s not true.  Could this be a rumor created by Ashton’s publicist to help promote his new movie with Bernie Mac, "Guess Who"?

How do you think these rumors get started?  (Please refrain from commenting if you are going to say something blatantly negative.)

By people that wish it was true! Then it just festers and grows.

I think at times its just a publicity stunt. He does have a movie coming out soon. Also like others have said its just people want them to be pregnant so they can have more to talk about.

- Tan on

If you read carefully though, they’re not actually denying the pregnancy. They are carefully wording their responses to the media and the spokesperson’s statement “Having another child is something Demi would like to do, but she cannot at this time say she is pregnant.” could well be a clever way of saying they are not confirming a pregnancy. Note how they don’t say she is NOT pregnant, just that she cannot say she is. It’s too early (rumour has it they will be confirming in 4 wks time when she’s past the 12wk mark) right now so maybe we’ll have some news later.

But it’s all rumour so who knows :)

- katie on

I think it’s just wishful thinking on magazine’s part – you know it would be a big story if they were pregnant because everyone would either be “Ewww, gross’ because of their age gap or ‘good for them!” – Everyone would have an opinon! BTW, I read in the newspaper this morning that Hilary swank says she’s will have a baby soon, and Sarah McLachlan says she will have a another baby soon, since she’s getting older (She’s 37).

- Jane on

Sometimes I think it’s the star looking to promote a movie. They put it out there just so they have something to deny. Sometimes it’s just a slow news day. I mean however it gets started aren’t you glad you’re not the celeb? Who would want someone discussing the comings and goings of your life and then the possibility of the child you might have? It’s got to be aggrivating unless you started the rumor.

- Dawn on

Like Danielle and Tan said, I think it’s a publicity stunt. Most stars leak something false to the media in hopes they’ll get major publicity. Paris Hilton is notorious for this. And the whole pregnancy thing would cause a big hoopla, just because of their age differences.

But, then again, Katie could be all to correct alos!!

- April on

Jane, I believe she’s 42

I think Demi is truly pregnant. She had a really traumatic miscarriage in the past and is probably waiting until she is safe and into the 3rd month to say anything about it. Just my humble little opinion ;-)

- Katie on

Someone mentioned “ew their age gap” — why is THAT even an issue! If HE were the one that was older then no one would care!

- Di on

That’s true, Di, although I have to admit I do a little “ewwwww” every time I see Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas together–he just SO looks like he could be her father (and then some!).

- Anne on

I don’t get it. If Demi Moore were pregnant, it wouldn’t make me want to see his movie any more!

- Sarcastic Journalist on

Me too, Anne. Now I admit, I don’t know if I’d say no to a marriage proposal from Sean Connery (if he weren’t already married), but Michael Douglas looks like he’s falling apart. lol.

I don’t think Demi is pregnant and if she is, she’s got every right to deny it to the press. Admitting it would only make the hounding more aggressive at this point.

- Erica on

I think it’s really tacky of him to announce “we had sex this week.” That screams publicity whore to me. If they really want to be a family and have a child together, why not get married first and set a good example for her teenage daughters? And I agree with Sarcastic – preggo or not, I don’t feel like seeing this movie anymore than I did his last bomb!

- Anonymous on

i definitely think she’s preggers but not saying because of chance of miscarriage–this pregnancy will be confirmed this time next month. I am thrilled for them—you go demi!!!

- janet on

I think a savvy publicist planted the rumor. While you may not *think* it’ll make you any more likely to see his film, in the world of PR, any and all press is thought to be helping the cause (just watch PoweR Girls if you don’t believe me!). And this rumor got Ashton on the cover of Star.

Yes, some publicist somewhere is patting herself herself on the back for this one.

- Ali on

Luckily I really was pregnant this time last year (therefore, I now have a kid) so I don’t have to worry about seeing this film :)

I think I want to become a celebrity PR person and make up rumors. What a life!

- Sarcastic Journalist on

I think such rumors get started by the media. They are hungry for news so make it up…

- amy on

I hope that she is pregnant. I would like to see Ashton with a little girl or boy of his own. :)

I say good for both of them she is very beautiful and has a real good attitude and goes far in life they really deserve to be happy…and for me she takes the cake of any of those young girls out there she has pride. her age to me is only 25 she looks faboulouse YOU GO FOR IT DEMI I LOVE YOU YOUR MY BEST

- zentac on

just heard on radio that ‘sources’ confirmed this rumour and that the baby is due in october. demi and ashton wanted to wait until 12wks to announce the news but the media broke it at 8. and apparently bruce was very upset that he heard in the media rather than from his ex-wife. dont know about all this but the refusal to deny anything by her publicist leaves it wide open for any eventuality. congrats to her if its true.
