Seal on what it means to be a father

"…I won’t talk about my relationship with Heidi or with the family or with my baby. The way I see it is that….one of the most defining life experiences a person can have is when you are given the opportunity to be a part of someone’s life, like a newborn baby’s life. 
       It doesn’t really matter where that baby comes from. It doesn’t matter whether that baby is from from your seed. It doesn’t really matter if that baby is adopted. But if you are given an opportunity to be a functional, influential part of a new life, if you are given the opportunity to take part in the cultivation of that soul and the growth of that being, I can’t think of any gift greater than that. And that’s the situation I find myself in."

i am so impressed by Seal and i have a newfound love for him. it takes a lot of courage to accept a responsibility as grand as raising a child that is not biologically yours, and it melts my heart to see him taking such a serious viewpoint on Leni. it also seems that he worships Heidi and their daughter as much as they worship him i’m so happy for them all!

well with a man like that, I’d worship the ground he walked on too !!
I hate to get all serious about stuff like this, but in a world with so many superficial people, especially in the entertainment business, it is so great to see people like Seal and Heidi come together and create a life together. Leni will have such a great upbringing. Hopefully, damn sperm doner Flavio won’t try to mess it up by getting into her life later and mess it up now that she has a daddy who wants her.

What actually did happen with Flavio Briatore? Did he dump her after she got pregnant? (nice) When did she start seeing Seal? I do think it’s a shame that Briatore doesn’t seem to want to be a part of his child’s life. I mean, just because you had a messy breakup with the other parent doesn’t mean you should reject your child just because that child gets half its DNA from the person you’re angry with.

On the other hand, as an earlier poster pointed out, now that Briatore does seem to have bowed out, let’s hope he stays gone. Leni has a stable and loving family in her mother and (step)father. I’ve seen it happen with several friends of mine whose parents were divorced when they were very young. The dad walked away and was out of their life for a long time, then he came back on a whim, then he walked away again, came back again. It’s very painful for the child, and can also cause a lot of pain and stress for the mom who did stick around, and the step-parent who became just as attached to the child as if it were his own, and would feel displaced by some guy who left, then came back and thought just because of DNA his prior behaviour as a father shouldn’t matter. Happens with regular people as well as celebrities.

I’m glad for Heidi that she’s found a guy who loves her, loves her child, and considers that child *theirs*. I’m just hoping he was kidding about the ‘worships the ground I walk on’ comment!
