Dixie Chick hatches some more chicks

05/05/2004 at 01:46 PM ET

Dixie Chick Martie Maguire gave birth to her twins on April 27. Eva Ruth was born at 8:05 a.m., weighing in at five pounds, 13 ounces, followed three minutes later by Kathleen Emilie, who weighed in at six pounds, 1 ounce. Both measured 19 inches. Kathleen is named after dad Gareth’s younger sister, who was killed in a car crash seven years ago.

Martie reported that she and her husband Gareth had been trying to conceive for 2 1/2 years.

In the tradition of sending donations instead of flowers or gifts, Martie had asked that in lieu of gifts, fans send donations to the non-profit organization, Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy. She chose this organization after meeting a family and hearing of the loss of their 6 month old son who lost his battle to SMA.

Eva and Kathleen join their cousin Charles Augustus Robison, born in 2002, (whose mom is Maguire’s sister, bandmate Emily Robison) and Jackson Slade Pasdar, born in 2001 (his mom is bandmate Natalie Maines, the Bush basher). In a few months, Natalie’s second child will round out the batch of chicklets. Gender and ETA are not known (at least by me).

Mom Said It

"We weren't trying to have kids. We left it up to fate. I knew there was a possibility, but I was really excited. Even if you are trying, just to see a positive result is shocking!"
