Add another name to the Twins list…
Country star Kenny Rogers, 65, and his fifth wife, Wanda Miller, 37, are expecting twins this summer.
Recently, someone pointed out to me the preponderance of celebrity twins is probably due to IVF, in vitro fertizilation. Having a friend who’s been going through the process, I finally understand how twins are a very likely possibility. To increase likelihood of any of the embryos making it, they deposit 2 or more. These women having twins are very lucky indeed because for every woman who ends up pregnant with twins or triplets through this process, there has got to be at least 1 who this did not work for and who did not end up pregnant. After the emotionally and physically draining process, the women with twins are indeed the lucky ones but let’s remember the countless women who this did not work for.
The IVF theory will be proved when all of these women have fraternal twins. After all, their twins are the result of two separately fertiziled implanted eggs while identical twins have split from the same egg.
Interestingly, I just finished reading Wally Lamb’s I Know This Much Is True, which is about identical twins. One of the twins suffers from schizophrenia but that doesn’t mean the other is completely unscathed, as he ends up literally being his brother’s keeper. Highly recommended but only if you can stand to read a very emotional book.
